About
Hi! I’m Tracy Algar, a landscape oil painter and painting teacher.
My main goal for painting classes is to give you the practical information that you need to start painting, and teach you the technical skills that you need to keep improving and evolving your work.
I teach traditional representational landscape painting in oils. There may also occasionally be a still-life involved.
Below this painting, you can ready more about my art journey, backwards in time, starting with the most recent bits.

New landscapes
After ten years of painting in the Overberg, I moved to the Karoo in 2024. It’s a very exciting move for me, because it means a place to really put down roots. We bought a lucerne field and built a small wooden house on it in a small agricultural village called Adendorp, just outside Graaff-Reinet. The view of Spandau Kop mountain, a local landmark, is directly in front of us and we are surrounded by the Camdeboo National Park. This is the Karoo!

Switching to oils

I had been painting with acrylic for eight years when I made the choice to switch to oil paint. I haven’t looked back. Even though my subject matter was very different from what I paint now, I have always been drawn to the landscape and unless asked to, I haven’t paint much of anything else since 2021. I’m hooked!
I’m working on this page at the moment, please check back again to read the rest of my story.
